Interior design trends are constantly flowing in and out of style. With the change of a season, we can take this time to change up our home design and decor to better match our current taste. Whether you want more pastels and florals, less monochromatic color schemes, or just a springtime shake-up, now is the time to reassess your home’s look inside and out. We are always here to help our clients and followers get the most out of their homes, decor included.
Utilize and Adapt Your Space
Throughout the past year, our homes have transitioned into school classrooms, work out studios, daycare facilities, and home offices. Quite simply, our homes are now the central hub for everything we do. We’ve learned how to utilize the rooms in our house for more than what they might have originally been intended for to create a more useful space. Because of this, experts imagine our homes will continue to become more transitional between work, family, and lifestyle.
Homes and Gardens explains that home layout plans will begin to incorporate a ‘broken’ floor plan. While retaining the spacious feel of an open floor plan design, this new trend will make use of screens, freestanding furniture, cabinetry and house plants to create distinct zones and smaller nest-like areas intended for cooking, relaxing, or entertaining. This will allow people to use each space in their home in the way that’s most adaptable to their current lives.
Start With a Statement
Your front door and curb appeal are easy places to start with swapping out seasonal decor. Boosting your home’s curb appeal is helpful whether you are thinking about selling or not, and the best part is that it doesn’t require a major renovation or any big changes. Just a few simple tweaks and some DIY can usually do the trick.
Start by adding flower beds, potted plants, or welcome mats that are more in line with springtime. Small changes like this can make a big impact on the way your home is perceived from the outside looking in. Now is also a great time to work on your front yard and begin pruning or planting trees, gardens, and shrubbery. Add Color to All-White Interiors
For years now, all-white interiors have been extremely popular in home design, specifically in rooms like kitchens or bathrooms with cabinets and countertops. As that trend fades, expect more subtle additions of color and pattern into home decor.
"We've been making everything from walls to countertops bright white," Interior designer Rachel Street told Insider. "Next year, I predict people will return to creating visual interest through color."
If you’re comfortable taking risks, consider using bright colors through wall paint or decor pieces that will bring your place to life. If you’re more hesitant, start slow with pastels and soft colors until you find something that suits your style.
When thinking through color palettes, pastels are synonymous with spring and might be an obvious choice for freshening up your spring home decor. Both gentle and airy, lighter pastel hues offer the environment of tranquility that’s so greatly desired in our fast-paced lives. If you are interested in switching up the less permanent items in your home for the different seasons, start incorporating springtime shades into your rooms at a smaller level. Whether through accent pillows, wall color or wall paper in a small room, or seasonal tabletop decor, these pastels add a softness that comes with springtime. In contrast, bright colors can also be used for a more bold use of color reminiscent of vibrant spring blooms and transitioning into summer.
Those looking to add a little more spunk to their all-white interiors without going all in on bright colors can try combining different light-colored patterns and textures. Different patterns and designs will offer more dimension and style to your room without overdoing it. Think about raw wood on tabletops, textured pottery, patterned bed sheets, and other items available for a pop of spring.
Go Bold in the Kitchen
One of the most popular all-white interior rooms has consistently been the heart of the home - the kitchen. After years of monochromatic or all-white kitchens, experts are predicting this room to go bolder than ever before. Outside of just paint color, Homes and Gardens expects kitchen designers to begin using materials in unconventional ways. Homeowners will start to see the kitchen as less cookie cutter and predictable. Experts are also expecting old school trends from the past to make their way into our kitchens again soon, like kitchen skirts and exposed wood or brick.
“Even if some elements like cabinetry and appliances need to be standardised, think about adding character with practical elements sourced elsewhere,” the home improvement website explains. “Consider a sink area featuring a rustic shelf to display pottery or a narrow geometric backsplash made of brass that creates an unusual vignette.”
As the seasons change, so do our home decor styles. Take this warm weather as an opportunity to shake up your typical home design elements. Use these ideas next time you’re browsing for new spring-focused decor.
